FAQs

What is the main difference between Chinese medicine and western medicine?

Chinese medicine is more likely to treat the cause of the illness rather than just the symptoms. It is gentle and safe.

How does a Chinese medicine practitioner make a diagnosis?

Diagnostic information from a Chinese medicine practitioner is gathered by four examinations: Looking, Listening, Asking and Touching. Most important examinations are based on examining your tongue and wrist pulses. The condition of your tongue, its overall colour, shape and the coating will tell the doctor about the condition of your internal organs. Each of us has 15 different pulse rates to which the practitioner has been trained to differentiate, then the practitioner will be able to tell the state of your internal organs.

How do I receive treatment?

A traditional Chinese medicine practitioner will examine you utilizing rational techniques: consult with you on present and past medical conditions and lifestyle. The practitioner will introduce the plan for the treatment and prescribe a course of treatment to heal the problem according to the principles of Chinese medicine.

How do I feel during and after treatment?

Most of people experience a feeling of peace and relaxation during acupuncture treatment. You should be fine to travel home alone afterwards. If you are in any doubt, you could take a friend with you on your first visit.

Are there any side effects from taking Chinese Medicine?

As a general rule there are no side effects or harmful ingredients, unless you are otherwise informed. Occasionally, because the body is having to readjust, there may be some minor side effects, such as loose stools, about which you will be informed beforehand.
